Trail Tuesday took me on more of a wild drive than a hike this week.  I have been hearing about the Toquerville Falls for several months, but have not had the chance to explore the area until today.  It is beautiful!  It has been described as an “oasis in the desert” and that is truly what it is.  You need to drive a truck, SUV, or ATV to get to the Toquerville Falls because the road is extremely rough in some places.  You need clearance on whatever vehicle you are driving because of the rough road, more than you need 4-wheel drive.

When we arrived at the falls we found that the water was flowing heavily due to the recent rainstorms.  We were ready to jump in the swimming hole, but the water current was too fast to do it.  The water was red and extremely sandy so we were unable to see the depths of the swimming areas.

I hope to go back to the Toquerville Falls, in Southern Utah, when the water is less heavy, so that I can jump from the cliffs around the falls into the swimming holes found there.  But if you just want to drive to see a beautiful waterfall, out in the middle of the desert, you should drive to the Toquerville Falls.

Directions to the Falls:  From St. George, head north on I-15 for about 20 miles and take exit 27 to Toquerville UT-17/UT-228.  Head south for 2.6 miles and take a left onto Spring Drive.  It seems to come up quick, so watch for the left turn.  We missed it the first time.  Follow Spring Drive for 3.6 miles and the road will fork – take the right fork and continue for about 2 miles.  You will turn off the road to the right and head over to the falls.  You can see the falls from the road for some time before you actually get there.

Live life to the fullest with no regrets!
