Southern Utah can be especially hot this time of year. While most St. George homes have air conditioning, use these tips to keep cool this summer all around the city!

Plan Ahead

Plan your activities during cooler parts of the day. Work out early in the morning or late into the evening when the sun is down and the air is cooler. Ask your kids’ baseball coach to schedule late evening practices. Plan your indoor activities and errands during the hot afternoons when you can plan on being in air conditioning.

Go to the Theater

There are few cooler places than a movie theater. Check out the latest summer blockbusters and take your family to an air conditioned afternoon in a dark theater. Alternatively, you can take your family to a play, either at one of the area’s outdoor theaters in the evening or air conditioned theaters.

Spend Time at the Pool

There are several community pools in the St. George area. Usually they have passes to make frequent visits more affordable. A day at the pool is a great way to cool off and spend some quality time with your family.

Stay Hydrated

Keeping hydrated is important during these hot summer months. Teach your kids the importance of drinking plenty of water and buy them their own reusable water bottle to drink from all summer long!

Take Breaks

Kids been playing hard outside all day? Working in the yard for hours? Make sure everyone takes a break to go inside or in the shade to cool off. Overheating can happen anytime, anywhere, so don’t let yourself or your kids overwork in the heat.

Tour a Museum

A trip to a museum is another great air conditioned activity for the family to enjoy. There are plenty of things to see and tours to take in St. George, so plan on spending a hot afternoon learning about dinosaurs or art.

Cook Outside

The oven is one of the fastest ways to heat up the inside of your home. Cook dinner outside in the shade or stick with cool summer dishes that don’t need to be baked. No one wants to stand by a hot oven during a heat wave, so look online for some great summer recipes.

Even in the desert, St. George offers plenty of ways to stay cool! Use these tips to stay nice and cool this summer.
