School is ending this week for students in St. George!  In a study by the Johns Hopkins School of Education, research showed that after summer break, “At best, students showed little or no academic growth over the summer.  At worst, students lost one to three months of learning.”  The study highlights summer reading programs and how they provide ”ongoing opportunities for students to learn and practice skills" so that they don't "fall behind on measures of academic achievement” following summer break.

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a Division of the American Library Association (ALA), always releases summer reading lists that they encourage librarians, parents and children to download for free.  With school ending this week, it seems like a perfect time to share these lists.

If you want your children or grandchildren to be engaged in reading throughout the summer, these lists are a perfect place to start.

Stay tuned for a upcoming blog on adult reading and a fabulous app you can download that helps you keep track of the books you read and compile a list of the books you want to read.  You can also rate and review books, share the information with others and compare the books you are reading with books that a friend is reading.

Live life to the fullest with no regrets!
