After my last blog post about choosing the right color for selling a home, I thought it might be helpful to share a few tips for staging your home to sell. As much as we like to think that everyone loves our decorating style, your style might hinder a potential buyer who has a very different vision for their home. Staging your home in the right way can make your home look like a real possibility for more potential buyers. Here are a few tips:

  1.        Declutter

You may love your odds and ends, but they can distract from the home. Be sure to remove anything that isn’t necessary such as trinkets, storage boxes, junk, or unused items. Simply putting them in the attic or a storage unit should be good enough. Getting rid of extra things will open up your house and make it look cleaner.

 2.       Touch Up

Wear and tear is a normal part of living, but potential buyers want to feel like they are buying a something new. Touching up the walls with fresh paint and removing any scuff marks on the floor and baseboards can add up and make a big difference in making your house look new.

3.       Organize Closets

It may be tempting to throw all your junk in the closet when someone comes to see the house, but potential buyers will be looking in those closets too. Organizing the closets can give potential home buyers an idea of what they can do with storage space.

4.     Clean up the Outside

The outside of the house is the first thing people see. Make sure the lawn is cut, leaves are raked, and gardening supplies are stored in the garage or shed. It may also help to plant some flowers or add a fresh coat of paint to the front door.

5.       Deep Clean

Give your whole house a deep clean. Scrub away any stains, remove all dust, and make it look as inviting as possible. Buyers don’t want to feel like they will have a lot of work when they move in. Giving the house a good clean will make it look move-in ready.

There are dozens of other things you can do to stage your house for buyers. Getting started with a few of these will help guarantee someone will buy your house.
